Joe Ganzelli is a Percussionist/educator in the San Francisco Bay Area, originally hailing from Philadelphia, PA. He holds an official performing position with the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West in Fairfield, CA, which holds concerts throughout the western United States and abroad. In addition, he is an active performer throughout the bay area with “The Purple Ones.”
Joe holds a dual Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Percussion Performance from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, which he began in 2010. He is also a certified K-12 educator through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. He studied classical percussion and drum set with Dr. Christopher Hanning (Relâche, NFL Films), Ralph Sorrentino (Opera Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet) and Dr. Marc Jacoby (Jazz vibraphone artist). He has also studied privately with Ari Hoenig and Tommy Igoe. Joe performed with many professional groups in the greater Philadelphia area, and taught individual private lesson students as well as high school marching percussion.
At West Chester University, Joe performed regular concerts with the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Latin Jazz and the Criterions Jazz Ensemble. In conjunction with Hershey Entertainment and Windish Music and Productions, he was a part of the award winning "found sound" percussion group "Cocoa Rhythm Factory," in 2012 and 2013. Recent session work includes the debut album of the Boston based pop/rock band, "Nocturnal Light," in 2013 and the Criterions Jazz Ensemble's album "I Hear a Rhapsody" in 2014. Marching percussion experience includes Drum Corps International finalist, Carolina Crown of Ft. Mill, SC and Winter Guard International finalist, United Percussion of Camden County, NJ.
